" I have always been intrigued by the fusion of jazz; the instruments, the voices and the environment where the music takes shape. At first I created poems suggesting the impact of the music on the listeners, whether it was dancers folded into one another's arms or lustful listeners at tables with curious fingers and eyes eager with love. Now I enjoy speaking of the musician, his or her strength in jazz and the reason why they breathe the notes alive from pain or broken spirits from the past. Through my poems I invite the reader to dive into the words, to get wet with the jive and dry off to the blow of sound slipping from horns." Roger's jazz poems are posted on Jazz INK. |
